March of the Penguins (84 minutes)
My alternative title would be: Life is Beautiful

SUPER MOVIE FAN'S RECOMMENDATION: 3, SEE IT

Who is in it?:
A lot of penguins and the narration is by MORGAN FREEMAN.

What is it about?
This is the most different movie that I have seen in a while. It is wonderful. It traces a flock of Emperor penguins across the Antarctic in a one-year timeframe. The life and death struggles, the beauty of the surroundings and the pleasure to see so much of nature make this a very compelling movie.

When and Where does this movie take place?
Antarctica

Why see it? I am so pleased to say that a documentary about something in nature is done so elegantly that this is a really good movie. FREEMAN'S narration is exquisite. You'll love the way life and death are explored. What a surprise—a really good "G" movie that teaches about how to appreciate the world around us.

How about the kids?
Rated "G" and great for everyone.

Video Pick of the Week
Because of Winn-Dixie. JEFF DANIELS is a preacher who moves with his 10-year-old daughter, Opal (ANNASOPHIA ROBB), to a small Florida town where he leads a congregation that holds its services in a convenience story. Opal doesn't remember much about her mom, who left when she was three. Lonely for the life she left behind, Opal finds a great new friend in a large mutt she quickly claims for her own--as it knocks down almost everything in the local Winn-Dixie supermarket. She claims the dog is hers and names it after the store in a quick attempt to save the dog from punishment. So begins a series of adventures that make the two inseparable friends. Through Opal's friendship with Winn-Dixie, several town members are re-awakened to their smile and to their long submerged optimism.

Next week, we'll review, Four Brothers. JOHN SINGLETON directs this story of four adopted brothers who find out their mom may have been murdered. MARK WAHLBERG is one of the brothers.

John Fischetti can be heard Friday's on the Wayne Perkey show on Oldies 103, WRKA and can be reached at fischettij@uncw.edu
