Top Five Movies of 2004

Wayne, as you know, many of the potential best movies of the year premiere in January around Kentukiana-having been released in New York or LA around the holidays to allow for award consideration. So, without seeing the entire potential field, here are my top five.

5. Hero-a well made Chinese tale of power and a fight for freedom with a classic beauty in its telling.

4. The Aviator-a biography about Howard Hughes that gives great insight into his life, his loves, his passion and his obsessions. Leonardo DiCaprio does a really good job of showing us all sides of this amazing and troubled man. Cate Blanchett as Katharine Hepburn is wonderful.

3. Spiderman 2-a blast, the best comic book movie ever on the big screen.

2. The Incredibles-kids and adults rave about this movie, former superheroes find the natural power of each other's love. You'll love it, Wayne.

1. Finding Neverland-the best movie of the year. Johnny Depp is so strong in this story about the author of Peter Pan, J.M. Barrie, and his inspiration for the story. I loved Kate Winslet in this movie. SEE THIS ONE, WAYNE!!!

Worst of the year: A tie: Van Helsing and Catwoman. John Fischetti can be heard Friday's on the Wayne Perkey show on 103.1, WRKA and can be reached at fischettij@uncw.edu.
