Wimbledon (100 minutes)
My alternative title would be: 3, SEE IT
SUPER MOVIE FAN'S RECOMMENDATION: 2. WAIT AND RENT
Who is in it?:
KIRSTEN DUNST, PAUL BETTANY
What is it about?
KIRSTEN DUNST (Lizzie) is a tennis star who is moving up. PAUL BETTANY (Peter) is a star who is fading. As they find love, their fortunes turn the opposite of what is expected, leading to family intervention and some off the court volleys.
When and Where does this movie take place?
Guess where Wimbledon takes place, Wayne?
Why see it? This is a movie where good things happen to good people. A rare find in today's entertainment landscape. The acting is good, the tennis is legit and the love story seems genuine.
How about the kids?
Rated "PG-13" for language, sexuality and some sexual content.
Video Pick of the Week
Mean Girls
Cady Heron (pronounced, Katie, played by LINDSAY LOHAN) is in her first year of school-as a junior in high school. Raised in Africa and home schooled there, her parents return to America for her mom's faculty position at Northwestern. When the first friends she finds are part of an arts clique excluded from the "cool" gang, she sets out to sabotage the "plastiques," the girls who epitomize cute to a fault. While doing so, she becomes one of them. Excellent performances. A strong PG-13 though, careful with the kids.
Next week, we'll review, The Forgotten. JULIANNE MOORE stars as a mom who loses her eight year-old son only to be told that the child never existed. How could this be? Then she meets a man who had the same experience and they team up to find out if they are crazy or something else is going on.
John Fischetti can be heard Friday's on the Wayne Perkey show on Oldies 103, WRKA and can be reached at fischettij@uncw.edu
